PRO BONO RULES!
At Landmark, we believe that every nonprofit with limited resources has the same right to high quality consulting services as those nonprofits with large budgets. We are committed to building the capacity of nonprofits, and for this reason we pride ourselves in providing a portion of our business free to qualifying nonprofits. Below are our rules for selection.
Why are you willing to do this?
We really love what we do, and we want nonprofits to thrive. We understand that a strong nonprofit sector is good for everyone. Besides, how else would we get to see all the great work that is being done in our communities?
What kind of work are you willing to do for free?
We do the same kind of work pro bono as we do for full fee clients: communications, organizational development, fundraising, board development, strategic planning, coaching, staff training, program development and evaluation, staff retreats.
Are there any restrictions to the work you will take on?
Yes. During the times that we have major projects in our pipeline we will not take on pro bono projects that require us to devote multiple months. We usually take on pro bono clients whose work requires no more than a few months (2-3). We will also not take on special event planning for free.
Do you cancel very often?
We haven’t to date, but if we must cancel, we will reschedule the work. If the work cannot be rescheduled, we will try to find another consultant that will take it on pro bono.
Will you work for less than your customary fee?
On occasions, Landmark takes on reduced fee engagements. We do this only if we have a very personal connection to the cause or to the organization. In the rare event of a reduced fee engagement, expenses are payable up front. We have reasonable and fair fees. If you cannot afford us, we will be happy to recommend a speaker, consultant or facilitator who may be less expensive, however, these consultants are usually starting out and that is why they charge less.
Are there any places you won’t work?
If you have a nonprofit that wants to make a difference, we will work with you. If you are in a City where we have clients, we will schedule our visits to you around the same time we are with those clients. If we have to travel to an area where we don’t have clients, you’ll have to cover the costs. And if you are an international organization, in a place our president wants to visit, we’ll work with you!
If you’ve done a pro bono engagement for us in the past, will you do a second one?
We always have more requests than time, so it depends on whether your project will have an impact on the field or will truly change your organization.
